Drawn to Shape, Color, and Feeling

Little girl me walks into a sunlit room

a custom kitchen, beautiful floors, the scent of the sandy beach drifting in from outside. Soft music playing. A warm Spanish voice gently saying, “Take off your shoes.” She would hurry over to give me the biggest hug and kiss.

“Hi, Grandma.”

She was dressed in a sheer top layered over a lace bralette and a flowing floor-length skirt, ready to walk to our favorite ice cream shop on Lincoln Road in Miami. Effortless. Confident. Completely herself. Looking back, I think loving beautiful things was always part of who I was. But she helped me understand what it was about them that stayed with me. It was the shape of things. The color. The texture. The way an object or a piece of clothing could feel in your hands and move with you. I have always been drawn to color and the way the world interprets beauty through form.

The curve of a handbag. The way fabric falls from the shoulder. The quiet structure of something thoughtfully made.

Putting the beauty of the world into how we present ourselves feels like a gift. Fashion, for me, became a place of creativity and expression a way of translating what you feel into something visible. Running toward bright color. Changing your look from one day to the next. Allowing yourself to move between different versions of who you are. Some days feel tailored and precise. Others feel relaxed and fluid.

Fashion has always reflected the moment we live in. You can trace generations through silhouettes, fabrics, and the way people carry themselves. Trends appear, evolve, and return again, and within that movement there is always space for individuality. Because we all belong somewhere within that rhythm. You don’t wear the same size jeans as an elementary schooler that you do as a college student. Bodies grow. Perspectives change. Life moves forward. Our style evolves with us.

Some days I love a beautifully constructed piece that shapes the body and feels refined. Other days I reach for something softer  a piece that drapes easily and moves with comfort. Both feel right in their own moment.

And both can tell a completely different story about the day ahead how you’re feeling and how you want to move through the world. To express yourself through what you wear is a beautiful thing. It is one of the most natural ways we communicate without speaking. A handbag, a dress, a pair of shoes  they each carry their own quiet language. The balance of proportion, the touch of fabric, the way an object settles into your hand. These details are part of the artistry of fashion. We should never feel the need to hide from the reflection we hope to see in the mirror. Discovering pieces that align with your mood, your identity, and your sense of beauty is something worth celebrating. Fashion offers endless ways to explore who we are becoming.

Life moves in many directions. It stretches us, surprises us, and asks us to grow in ways we didn’t expect. We might as well move through it in pieces that make us feel ready for the world. Pieces chosen for their shape, their color, and the feeling they bring.
